about
Petty Crimes, the second single from the forthcoming new album by Izzy and the Black Trees “Revolution Comes In Waves” (to premiere this fall, released by Antena Krzyku label), depicts the social and political climate in countries where presidential and governmental elections are being falsified, countries that more and more lean towards authoritarian regimes rather than respecting democracy.
Izabela Izzy Rekowska, the band’s frontwoman and author of the lyrics says: “While writing the song I was thinking about the political situation in Poland where the so called “petty crimes” are a common way to deceive people, making them think that they have a choice while in reality they don’t. Current state of democracy in our home country is perceived as being flawed not only by other countries but also by many young people who do not support the ruling party, the ways that they treat LGBT+ communities and cut down on abortion rights. This is not right, this is not how a modern society should look like, there is a need for a change and it has to come soon otherwise we will be a mere bird on a wire”
With Petty Crimes, which follows suit their first single Liberate released earlier in June this year, the band continues the bitter narrative describing the current political situation not only in their home country but also in the neighboring Republic of Belarus.
lyrics
Petty crimes on the day of elections
Oh what a glorious day
Face it child there is no promise no protection
They just released a bird on a wire
Petty crimes on the day of elections
How they break us hour after hour
The chairman turns a blind eye to emotions
I'm not convinced by his porcelain lies
Petty crimes, comes celebration
The bride's divine, she's eating cake
Smoke & mirrors, release the fireworks
Bow down to this sweet victory
Petty crimes, we all know it too well
It's not kept a secret, just on national TV
You look dashing, this light really suits you
Come and join our limping parade
I don't wanna be left behind
I don't wanna be left behind
You gotta tell me what's on your mind
I don't wanna be left behind
There's gotta be something on your mind
I don't wanna be left behind
I don't wanna be left behind x 4
Call off the elections
Bring back emotions
Call off the elections
